পরিচিতি

যে সকল শব্দ সাধারণত noun বা pronoun এর সামনে বসে noun বা pronoun এর সাথে sentence এর অন্যানো শব্দের সম্পর্ক প্রকাশ করে তাদেরকে preposition বলা হয়।

উদাহরণ

Put the book the table-বাক্যে the table noun-টি বাক্য থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন। উহার পূর্বে ‘on’ বসলে উহা বাক্যের অংশ হয় বা বাক্যের সাথে সম্পর্কিত হয়। যেমন, put the book on the table. সুতরাংএ বাক্যে ‘on’ একটি preposition ।

লক্ষ্যণীয়

* Verb এর subject এবং object ছাড়া বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত অন্য যে কোন noun বা pronoun এর পূর্বে অবশ্যই preposition বসাতে হবে।

মূলতঃ preposition বাক্যে Noun বা Pronoun এর Connector রূপে কাজ করে। Noun বা Pronoun ছাড়া অন্য কোন Part of speech এর পূবে কখনো কোন preposition বসে না।

বিপরীতক্রমে, preposition এর পরে অবশ্যই Noun বা pronoun বা noun-এর সমতূল্য কোন শব্দ বা শব্দ সমষ্টি অবশ্যই থাকতে হবে। noun বা pronoun না থাকলে preposition নিষ্প্রয়োজন।

Classification

Simple Preposition

• সাধারণত sentence এ ব্যবহৃত একক preposition গুলোকে simple preposition বলে ।
• On, in, to, at, from, with, of, off, over, under ইত্যাদি simple prepositions এর উদাহরণ।
• যেমন: He was looking at me

Compound Preposition

• যে preposition গুলো দুটো noun, pronoun অথবা phrase কে যুক্ত করতে ব্যবহৃত হয় তাদেরকে compound preposition বলে।
• Between, before, around, about, along, above ইত্যাদি compound prepositions এর উদাহরণ।
• যেমন: She was asking about this matter

Phrase Preposition

• যে preposition গুলো দলবদ্ধ শব্দ এবং sentence এর বিভিন্ন অংশের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক বোঝায় তাদেরকে phrase preposition বলে ।
• In spite of, in front of, in order to, due to, on account of, for the sake of ইত্যাদি Phrase prepositions এর উদাহরণ।
• যেমন: We were standing in front of the college

Double Preposition

• দুটো preposition যুক্ত হয়ে একটি নতুন preposition গঠণ করলে তাকে double preposition বলে ।
• because of, from behind, within, out of, outside of ইত্যাদি Double prepositions এর উদাহরণ।
• যেমন: I have to do this work within today.

Preposition of time

• যে preposition কোনো কাজের সময় বা একটি sentence এর noun গুলোর মধ্যে সময়ের সম্পর্ক নির্দেশ করে তাকে preposition of time বলে ।
• যেমন: I will try to come at 6:30 pm

Preposition of place

• যে preposition গুলো কোনোকিছুর অবস্থান নির্দেশ করে তাকে preposition of place বলে।
• behind, under, on, in, at, between, over ইত্যাদি Preposition of place এর উদাহরণ।
• যেমন: The boy was standing behind the tree.

Preposition of direction

• যে preposition কোনোকিছুর বা কারো দিকে নির্দেশ করে তাকে preposition of direction বলে ।
• in, on, under, over, left, right ইত্যাদি Preposition of direction এর উদাহরণ।
• যেমন: The school is situated on the right side of the town.

Preposition for an agent

• যে preposition কোনো কাজ ও কাজ সম্পাদনকারীর মধ্যে সম্পর্ক নির্দেশ করে তাকে preposition for agent বলে ।
• যেমন: I like to go there with you.

Preposition used for Tools, Mechanism or Gadget

• এই preposition গুলো বিভিন্ন noun কে ( যন্ত্র, বাদ্যযন্ত্র , মেশিন প্রভৃতি ) sentence এর অন্যান্য শব্দের সাথে যুক্ত করে ।
• যেমন: I opened the bottle with the help of an opener.

=> On-এর ব্যবহার

• সাধারণত একটি বস্তু অন্য আরেকটি বস্তুর ওপর আছে এমন অর্থে On হয়, আবার কোনো বস্তু বা ব্যক্তি একে ওপরের ওপর নির্ভরশীলতা বুঝাতেও On ব্যবহার হয়।

উদাহরণ

• The book is on the desk.
• Bangladesh depends on agriculture.

=> Up-এর ব্যবহার

• সাধারণত নিচে থেকে ওপরে দিকে কোনো কিছু ওঠানো বোঝাতে Up ব্যবহার করা হয়।

উদাহরণ

• He has climbed up very high hill.
• The tree is growing up quickly.

Above-এর ব্যবহার

• যদিও above ও over প্রায় একই উদ্দেশ্যে একই জায়গায় ব্যবহার করা যায়। এর পরও above সাধারণ ‘বেশি উচ্চতর অবস্থান’ বোঝাতে ব্যবহার হয়।

উদাহরণ

• A plan can fly above the clouds.
• The cat jumped above the wall.

Over-এর ব্যবহার

• বেশির ভাগ ক্ষেত্রেই Over PrepositionwU Above-এর বিকল্প হিসেবে ব্যবহার হয়। তবে এটি সাধারণত কম ওপরে বুঝতে ব্যবহার হয়।

উদাহরণ

• The fan is moving over our heads.
• A plan can fly over the clouds.

Under-এর ব্যবহার

• সাধারণত নিচে কোনো বস্তু বা জিনিস অবস্থান করে এমন অর্থে Under ব্যবহার করা হয়। নিচের বস্তু বা জিনিসের অবস্থান এমন হতে হবে যাতে ওপরে যে বস্তু আছে তা পড়লে নিচের বস্তু বা জিনিসটিকে স্পর্শ করবে।

উদাহরণ

• The old man sat under the mango tree.
• We all sleep under the roof.

Below-এর ব্যবহার

• সাধারণত ওপর থেকে নিচে বোঝাতে Below ব্যবহার করা হয়। বিশেষ করে নির্দিষ্ট কোনো লাইন, রেখা নিচে অবস্থান অর্থে এর ব্যবহার বেশি।

উদাহরণ

• Most of the people live in Bangladesh below poverty line.
• There is a lake below the town.

Beneath-এর ব্যবহার

• Beneath-এর ব্যবহার under-এর মতোই।

উদাহরণ

• The old man sat beneath the mango tree.
• We all sleep beneath the roof.

With-এর ব্যবহার

• যখন কর্তা কোনো কাজে কোনো সহায়ক বস্তু/জিনিস ব্যবহার করে, তখন with ব্যবহার হয়।

উদাহরণ

• Rahim killed the snake with a stick.
• I cut the mango with a knife.

By-এর ব্যবহার

• By সাধারণত কর্তা যখন নিজে কাজ করে তখন By ব্যবহার করা হয়।

উদাহরণ

• The hen was killed by a dog.
• He did the work by his own hand.

Through-এর ব্যবহার

• কোনো কিছুর মধ্যে দিয়ে কোনো কাজ সম্পাদন হয়েছে—এমন অর্থে Through ব্যবহার হয়।

উদাহরণ

• Mina saw a bird through the window.
• Rahim was passing through a deep forest.

Before-এর ব্যবহার

• নির্দিষ্ট কোনো সময়ের আগে বোঝাতে before ব্যবহূত হয়।

1. যেমন:He will get back before lunch.
2. যেমন:He arrived here before me.

• ক্রমানুসারে কোনো কিছুর আগের অবস্থান বোঝাতে before ব্যবহূত হয়।

1. যেমন:A comes before B in the alphabet.
2. যেমন:Your name comes before mine on the list.

• কোনো কিছুর সামনে বোঝাতে before ব্যবহূত হয়

1. যেমন:He was brought before the judge.
2. যেমন:The accident took place before me.

About -এর ব্যবহার

• কাছাকাছি কোনো স্থান বা সময় নির্দেশ করতে about ব্যবহৃত হয়।

1. যেমন:He is somewhere about here.
2. যেমন:I dropped the key somewhere about there.

• অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে কিছু ঘটতে যাচ্ছে, এরূপ বোঝাতে about+infinitive ব্যবহৃত হয়।

1. যেমন:They are about to start.
2. যেমন:She is about to die.

• প্রায় অর্থে about ব্যবহৃত হয়।

1. যেমন:There are about five thousands people in our village

On/in/at-এর ব্যবহার

• কোনো দেশ বা বড় শহরের পূর্বে in এবং ছোট স্থানের পূর্বে at ব্যবহৃত হয়।

1. যেমন:They live in India.
2. যেমন:My father lives at Dhanmondi in Dhaka.

• রাস্তার নামসহ বাসার নম্বরের আগে at ব্যবহূত হয়।

1. যেমন:We live at 89, Mirpur Road, Dhaka.
2. যেমন:They have opened an office at 29, Central Road.

• শুধু রাস্তার নাম বোঝালে in ব্যবহূত হয়।

1. যেমন:We live in Mirpur Road, Dhaka.
2. যেমন:They have opened an office in Central Road.

• বাড়ির সামনে বা পেছনে বোঝালে at বসে, কিন্তু যানবাহনের সামনে বা পেছনে বোঝালে in ব্যবহূত হয়

1. যেমন:There is a garden at the front of our house and a pond the back of our house.
2. যেমন:Please sit in the front of the car; don’t sit in the back.

• শুধু রাত বোঝালে at ব্যবহূত হয়, কিন্তু গভীর রাত বোঝালে in ব্যবহূত হয়।

1. যেমন:We work by day but sleep at night.
2. যেমন:I woke up in the night.

• অস্থায়ী কোনো কাজের সঙ্গে যুক্ত থাকা বোঝাতে at এবং স্থায়ী কোনো কাজের সঙ্গে যুক্ত থাকা বোঝাতে in ব্যবহূত হয়।

1. যেমন:They are at work now.
2. যেমন:He is in the army.

• খামার বোঝালে on এবং কারখানা বোঝালে তার আগে in ব্যবহূত হয়।

1. যেমন:He works on a farm; but his brother works in a factory.
2. যেমন:He is in the army.

• হাতলবিহীন চেয়ার বোঝালে on এবং হাতলবিশিষ্ট চেয়ার হলে তার আগে in ব্যবহূত হয়।

1. যেমন:Comilla stands on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.
2. যেমন:We live in Rankin Street in Dhaka.

• নির্দিষ্ট তারিখ বা দিনের আগে on বসে, কিন্তু নির্দিষ্ট ঘণ্টার আগে at ব্যবহূত হয়।

1. যেমন:I will come back at five o’clock on Friday. (at Friday on five o’clock ব্যবহূত হবে না)

Into-এর ব্যবহার

• গতিশীলতা , অবস্থার পরিবর্তন , নির্দেশ বুঝাতে into বসে।

1. যেমন:The teacher entered into the class room.
2. যেমন:Water is changed into snow.

• সংখ্যায় ভাগ হওয়া , সংঘর্ষ বুঝাতে into বসে।

1. যেমন:They were divided into two groups.
2. যেমন:The truck crashed into a tree.

To -এর ব্যবহার

• কোন স্থানে আসা এবং যাওয়া বুঝালে ঐ স্থানের আগে to বসে।

1. যেমন:He goes to school everyday.

• ব্যক্তির কাছে বুঝালে, অনুসারে বুঝাতে , পরিমান / হার বুঝাতে তার আগে to বসে।

1. যেমন:He came to me.

In/On/To-এর ব্যবহার

• সীমার মধ্যে in, সীমার উপরে on, সীমার বাইরে to বসে।

1. যেমন:I live at savar in Dhaka.
2. যেমন:The Buriganga is on the south of Dhaka.
3. যেমন:Zinzira is to the south of Dhaka.

For-এর ব্যবহার

• সাহায্য অর্থে, কারন, জন্য,মূল্য, বিনিময় বুঝাতে for বসে।

1. যেমন:Would you please do it for me?
2. যেমন:What can I do for you?

• সময়ের আগে ধরে / যাবৎ / ব্যাপিয়া বুঝাইতে for বসে।

1. যেমন:It has been raining for two hours.

Of -এর ব্যবহার

• সম্পর্ক , উপকরণ বুঝাতে of বসে।

1. যেমন:I know nothing of it.
2. যেমন:The house is made of stone.

• অধিকার / মালিকানা , উৎপন্ন / উদ্ভুত বুঝাতে of বসে ।

1. যেমন:It is the house of Mr. Khan. He comes of a respectable family.

From -এর ব্যবহার

• কারো নিকট হইতে অথবা কোন স্থান হইতে বুঝালে ব্যক্তি বা স্থানের আগে from বসে।

1. যেমন:The man come from abroad. Don’t get down from a running bus.

After-এর ব্যবহার

• পরে, মোটের উপর. ব্যাপক সময় বুঝাতে after বসে।

1. যেমন:He came after me.
2. যেমন:He returned home after a month.

• পিছনে ,অসংখ্যবার বুঝাতে after বসে।

1. যেমন:We run after the thief.
2. যেমন:I’ve told him time after not to do that.

Between/Among-এর ব্যবহার

• দুইয়ের মধ্যে বোঝাতে between, দুইয়ের বেশির মধ্যে বোঝাতে among বসে।

1. যেমন:Divide the apples between Sakib and Tamim.
2. যেমন:The rumor has spread among the staff.

Since/For-এর ব্যবহার

• নির্দিষ্ট সময় বোঝাতে since, অনির্দিষ্ট সময় বোঝাতে for বসে।

1. যেমন:Julia has been sick since Monday last.
2. যেমন:Mim has been sick for three days.

Within-এর ব্যবহার

• সময়ের, সামর্থ্যের মধ্যে বুঝাতে within বসে।

1. যেমন:He will come back within a month.
2. যেমন:We should live within our means.

Off/Up/Down -এর ব্যবহার

• দূরে , বিচ্ছিন্ন অর্থে off বসে। নিচ থেকে উপরের দিকে বুঝাইতে up বসে। উপর থেকে নিচের দিকে বুঝাতে down বসে।

1. যেমন:Be off from here.
2. যেমন:Go up the hill.
3. যেমন:The boy has fallen down from the building.

Without/Through/Across-এর ব্যবহার

• ছাড়া অর্থ বুঝাতে without ব্যবহৃত হয়। ভিতর / মধ্য দিয়ে বুঝাতে Through বসে। আড়াআড়ি ভাবে , অপর পার্শ্বে বুঝাতে across বসে।

1. যেমন:We can’t live without water.
2. যেমন:Through the forest, through struggle.
3. যেমন:My house is just across the road.

Beside/Behind-এর ব্যবহার

• পাশে, এছাড়াও বুঝাতে besides বসে। পিছনে বুঝাতে Behind বসে।

2. যেমন:Behind the tree.
